Speaking during a rally organised in Lagos yesterday, one of the presidential aspirants of the party, Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese has said the NCP founded by former Human Rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi provides a better alternative to the APC and PDP.
The rally, which took off in Ikeja was aimed to create awareness among the people of Lagos and Nigerians on the need to reject the two political parties that have not only failed to deliver on the dividends of democracy but also plunged the nation into unprecedented poverty and hardship.
According to him, “The fact is that Nigerians are tired of the status quo. They have tasted PDP for 16 years and now they have also tested APC and they have seen that they are not different. Nigerians are desperately looking for alternative and NCP is that alternative.
He noted that what the country needs to move ahead for now is a political revolution, which only the NCP ideology could offer if given the chance to rule the country come 2019.
Ikubese said Fawehinmi, the founding fathers of the country and all those who staked their lives for the growth and development of the country would be turning right now in their graves because of the parlous state of the nation.
He said, “Things are moving from bad to worse and all of us must come together to rescue the nation. All we are seeing are propaganda, lying of blames. We are not seeing definitive plans. The government should be able to say in the next one year, these are the things we would have achieved, this is our direction, policy statement.”
While he flayed the ruling party for failing to deliver on its change promises, Ikubese said any candidate presented by the NCP would dust President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election, if the incumbent decides to re-contest.
According to him, “If President Buhari re-contests election in 2019, it would be a plus for the NCP because we would defeat him easily. So we actually pray that he re-contests.”
Explaining the factors that would aide the NCP in the coming election, one of the executive members of the party, Bayo Ogunleye said there is nothing the PDP wants to offer Nigeria again after 16 years failure and the ruling APC is so enmeshed in internal crises that it has and may not find its feet to think right in developing the country.
He said the rally was meant to be symbolic and a tribute to his memory and all that he lived for while he was alive.
