Theme: THE POWER OF KNOWLEDGE
“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” – Genesis 3:6, 7.
The Holy Bible shows that the Garden of Eden had different categories of trees. It consisted of “every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.” (Genesis 2:9). Beguiled by the subtle serpent, Eve ate the fruit of the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” and gave to her husband, Adam, who, though not deceived, transgressed the law of God by eating it. (Genesis 3:3-6; 1Timothy 2:14) Granted that their eyes were “opened”, to know that they were naked, the knowledge did not actually profit them. It brought sorrow and grief to them. King Solomon truly said: “For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.” – Ecclesiastes 1:18.
The fact is that God gives His people the right amount of knowledge in His own due time. Man can, therefore, only be profited by what God has purposed to give him at each point in time. Man should not over exercise himself. Some knowledge about the world are hidden by God until due time as Moses the prophet declared in Deuteronomy 29:29: “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Compare Isaiah 25:6, 7.
