Theme: AVOIDING ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” – Ephesians 4:29.
The tongue is used to taste, talk, and praise or even to curse. When properly used, it will bring blessing to us but contrariwise, it will bring trouble which we do not pray for. This advice by Apostle Paul is very apt to us Christians, in that, one’s ability to tame the tongue shows he has control over his body. Apostle James described the tongue as a little member in the body that boasts of great things.
He stated further, “Behold how a great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity…it defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the course of nature…” (James 3:5,6) As Christians, what we say, how we say it and when we say it matters a great deal. King Solomon says: “A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” (Proverbs 15:23)
There are some persons who do not weigh their words before saying them; they say all manner of reproachful words to their neighbours just to hurt their feelings. This sort of behaviour should not be seen among worshippers of God; it is an anti-social behaviour and very uncharitable to say the least. Let our speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt. – Colossians 4:6.
