THERE IS NOTHING HIDDEN THAT SHALL NOT BE REVEALED
“And the LORD said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman. And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.” – 1 Kings 14:5,6.
While Jeroboam was king of the divided nation of Israel, he made idol worship an official policy. However, when his son became sick, he remembered God and sought to know from Ahijah the prophet if his son would recover. Because of guilty conscience, he exercised extra caution, as he instructed her to disguise herself so that the prophet, who was already blind, would not recognise her. However, by so doing he made the mistake of many faithless and ungodly people: they think they can by their craftiness hide things from God.
The fact that she had disguised herself had been revealed to the prophet before as stated in the text for today. The “heavy tidings” that were given to the wife of Jeroboam were that his sons would die in horrible circumstances and that the son who had been sick would die as soon as her feet stepped into the house. Moreover, he himself would lose the throne while the nation of Israel would go into exile. All these fulfilled to the letter.
Why did King Jeroboam ask his wife to disguise to see the prophet? Because he knew he was neck deep in idolatry by reason of which he feared that the prophet would not see him. (2 Kings 14:2-15) “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things” says Apostle John, “Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.” -1 John 3:20, 21.
